Description: A 2 mile loop consisting of packed dirt/small pea size gravel. About 1/3 of the loop is uphill and 1/3 is downhill. If you run the loop clockwise, you encounter a gradual packed dirt, shaded uphill followed by a gravel, steeper downhill. Running the loop counterclockwise allows you to run up the steeper gravel hill and down the gradual packed dirt hill. I alternate directions in order to workout on both hill types.
Warning: The trail crossing (as of Nov/Dec 2010) is closed due to construction. You are still able to use the trail, but you have to detour across the street and a construction area to return to the trail.
Parking: I park at the Solana Health Club off Sam School Road. If you pull into the parking lot and keep going until you're near the tennis courts, you can easily access the trail from there. It actually starts right next to the tennis courts.
Traffic: To complete the 2 mile loop, you cross city streets at Sam School Road/Kirkwood Boulevard and on Kirkwood Boulevard near Precinct Line Road. Cars usually don't yield, so be careful! Because part of the trail goes around an office park, there is a lot of traffic between 7:45 and 9 AM on weekdays. However, weekends are usually great, with very little traffic.
Restrictions: No bicycles, motorized vehicles, or pets allowed on trail.
More Mileage: Part of the trail extends from the health club south on Sam School Road and then intersects with a sidewalk that goes through a heavily wooded partially undeveloped subdivision. The sidewalks provide an
alternate route that's a mix of sidewalks/trail and also alternate parking along Dove Road.
